Under the name "The Mojave Experiment", Microsoft has rebranded the Windows Vista operating system as "Windows Mojave" and has shown it to over 120 computers users who have rated Windows Vista under 5 points, on a scale from 1 to 10.
Microsoft suspected that these Mac, Linux and Windows users have never used Windows Vista before, despite them badmouthing the operating system. The respondents were given a demonstration of the so-called Windows Mojave by a computer salesperson. At the end of the demonstration, the respondents were asked to rate the new operating system, and the average rating increased from 4.4 to 8.5 out of 10.
After Microsoft revealed to the 120 participants that Windows Mojave is in fact Windows Vista, reactions such as "It's totally different than I had heard" and "I'd give it a 10" were recorded and put as video clips at MojaveExperiment.com.
Microsoft said the experiment was conducted to raise the awarness of regular people who've never used Windows Vista but are judging it based on word of mouth.
The fictional operating system was named after the Mojave Desert in the Western United States where various experiments are being made by scientists and institutions such as NASA. |
