The earlier rumored Mac clone from Psystar, called OpenMac has made its debut and honored the first batch of orders. The machines sold by Psystar are typical Intel desktop PCs running an EFI V8 emulator that fools Apple's operating systems into thinking it's a genuine Apple Mac machine they are running on.
Early this month, Apple has filed a lawsuit against the Psystar manufacturer of the Mac clone, claiming copyright infringement, breach of contract, trademark infringement and unfair competition among other counts. In the lawsuit Apple has asked for all the sold Mac clones to be recalled and all of Psystar's profits to be surrendered to the Apple corporation.
Since Psystar is the first known company to be selling hacked PCs running Apple's operating systems, if Apple fails to win the lawsuit it will open the gate for a great number of companies to start selling similar machines at prices well under the ones of Apple's. This could lead to Apple being forced to become more of a software company like Microsoft, and less of a hardware seller. |
