Since Friday a line has started forming in front of Apple's flagship store on 5th Avenue, in New York City. The first ten people formed a line on Friday, led by a family with a baby whose parent plan on setting a record for the most time a baby has spent in line. They will have to wait in line exactly one week, because the iPhone 3G will be made available on Friday, July 11.
The group of people dropped to 5 on Saturday, after a night of thunderstorms. Some of the people in line claim to be part of a group called "TheWhoFarm" that want to convince the future president of the United States to transform the White House's lawn into an organic farm. Riding along with the iPhone wave, they also plan on buying iPhones for presidential candidates John McCain and Barack Obama.
The iPhone 3G cannot be activated at home like its older brother, because many of the phones were never activated but instead unlocked and sold as subsidized phones on eBay and other similar sites. The iPhone 3G will be activated in the store, which will make the entire checkout process longer to about 10 minutes. The subscription plans have changed as well, with the basic voice plan and data plan exceeding $100 per month. |
