Chrysler announced Thursday a new feature available for all Chrysler 2009, Dodge and Jeep models: Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity within the car. This will allow various devices to sync with the car's 30GB hard drive, as well as access the Internet with any Wi-Fi enabled device. The Internet connection will be made available through a 3G cell phone network, undisclosed yet.
The hotspot created by the vehicle will extend 50 to 100 feet from the vehicle, making it accessible from inside coffeeshops when parked nearby, and picnics. "It gives you flexibility if you're parked somewhere or, say, watching a kid's soccer game," Chrysler Advanced Connectivity Strategist, Keefe Leung said. "If you want to be able to check out the Internet without being in your car, you can do that."
Under the name uConnect, the Wi-Fi router will be available as a Mopar accessory starting this August. The Internet service will be provided by AutoNet Mobile at a cost of $29 per month, and the router will cost $449. |
