Google, Yahoo, Live.com banned in China

Google, Yahoo, Live.com banned in China

Despite all of Google's efforts to be well within the US laws and the local laws of China so that it can maintain its presence on the Chinese market, the Chinese government has blocked it and the other two major search engines through large ISPs such as China NetCom. When attempting to access blogsearch.google.com, google.com, yahoo.com or live.com, the users are being redirected to Chinese censored search engines such as Baidu.com.

It is yet unknown if this banning will soon extend to all ISPs and to all access points. Shanghai, the largest city in PRC, is one where almost all of the tested China NetCom access points have redirected the URLs of the major search engines to Baidu.com. This move not only allows China to be in better control of the censorship, but also to boost its own search engine and thus its economy by decreasing the market share of the American search engines.
