In an attempt to challenge Skype, Google acquired GrandCentral Communications, a web telephony company that allows its users to manage all their phone numbers in one place and use a single phone number to ring any of their existing phones. Depending on who's calling, you can have this phone number ring all your phones, some, none, or only selected phones. Another benefit of GrandCentral's services is the central voice mailbox. The other features are similar to the ones you'd benefit from your email account: forward, mark as spam, add to address book, etc."We're really excited to welcome the GrandCentral team to Google. While we're moving their technology over to Google's network, a limited number of invitations will be available to register for a GrandCentral beta account. If you have a U.S. telephone number, you can sign up for an invitation at www.grandcentral.com. Current GrandCentral customers will continue to have uninterrupted access to the service" said Wesley Chan, Product Manager at Google. You can reserve your area code and get notified when Google's Grand Central services become available to new users at GrandCentral.com. |
