ActiveX

Definition:

A popular technology developed by Microsoft, which allows certain code to be executed by a website, with the user's permission. This code is used to add functionality to a browser (such as Internet Explorer).

ActiveX controls can be developed in several languages, such as Visual Basic, C++ and Java.

Common uses of ActiveX controls are in browser toolbars, add-ons, but malicious code can also be installed as an ActiveX control, therefore you should be careful and verify the website before accepting the installation of an ActiveX control on your system.
