Tasks Not Showing Up In My Tasks

On Wednesday, August 27th 2008 at 04:48 AM

Project Server 2007: I want to be able to assign individual Resources for
some Project Tasks at a different Units% to the value associated with the
resource in the Enterprise Resource Pool. Changing the Units% allows selected
staff to share some tasks without affecting the task duration or to work on
several tasks in parallel.

Unfortunately I have found that these Task assignments do not show up in the
Task Views for the users. They do show up correctly in the Project Centre
view of the plan and in the Resource Availability view for the Resource.

What do I need to do?

Re: Tasks not showing up in My Tasks

In a simple example; if I have two tasks to be worked on in parallel by the
same resource I have found that the only way that I can get Project to
represent them in the plan that way, ie: starting at the same time, is to
assign them to each task at 50%. The work remains the same but the duration
doubles.

My problem is that these tasks for this resource do not show up in the My
Tasks view for the user, although they are visible from the Project Centre
and Resource Availablity. This seems to be related to the fact that the
Units% value for the resource is now different from the Enterprise Resource
Sheet value.

How can I show these tasks in My Tasks?

Mike:

The behavior you describe in your first statement is exactly how the system
is supposed to work. So what's the beef? That's what I'm trying to figure
out. That they are not showing up in my tasks is a completely different
issue and I can assure you it has nothing to do with the percent units not
matching the default in the resource pool. Keep in mind that the setting in
the resource pool is simply a default value that gets applied at the time
the assignment is made unless the PM changes it. Could it be that these are
future tasks and the resource has the show current tasks only check box
selected in the view options?

Hi Gary,

I have reworked my example again with all new data and it all appears to
work fine. I must have made a stuff up.

Thanks for your time

Re: Tasks not showing up in My Tasks

I spoke too soon, I have just done the exercise again with real data and a
new project. This time I have just selected the Enterprise resource from the
picklist for each task and not changed Units% - as this seems irrelevant to
the problem

Again I find that Task assignments are not showing up in My Tasks view and
yet I can see my allocations in Resource Center>Resource Availability and I
can add lines to My Timesheet. I am the Project Owner, Project Manager and
Status Manager and I am looking at all tasks, not just the current period. If
I assign a task to another resource I own I don't see these either.

I need to be certain that all Tasks will show up on someones task View -
what do I need to do?

Mike:

Are you certain you published the project? Are you certain that the
resources are the assignment owners of these tasks?

Re: Tasks not showing up in My Tasks

Hi Gary,

The problem has been resolved, although I am not sure how. It was not due to
Publishing

I did have a related problem with assignment owners for Generic resources
that I have overcome. I had setup some as group roles with the intention of
Resource managers reassigning to real people. I then discovered that Generic
resources don't have assignment owners, so all their tasks would come to me.
I have now unticked the Generic resources box for these resources so that the
tasks go to the assignment owner for the resource.

We are running 2007 with SP1 and are planning to implement the April 23rd
Hotfix (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/950816), due to one user having a
blank screen in her My Tasks view. Could this be related to my intermittent
problems?

I'm having the same dilemma.

I assign tasks to resources from the Enterprise Resource Pool, they are by
default the assignment owner, but the tasks (though current) are not showing
up in their "My Tasks" view of PWA.

Can you please help?
